The Power of Now!

I am sure you have often heard there is no time like the present. Well, it is true. Did you move a step closer to your goal today? Maybe you didn’t jump the Grand Canyon kind of step, but something right?

As the Bible says, if a neighbor comes to you for help don’t say come back tomorrow and I’ll see what I can do. They are coming to you for a reason. You have the tools, the resources, God’s anointing. Don’t overlook the power in that. Know there is something about you that God is lifting up. Just keep at the small things. I have always heard Rome was not built in a day. Just do something, anything. Procrastination is such a killer of ideas and progress. Even chapter one of proverbs tells us that “fools are destroyed by their own complacency.”

Just imagine where we would be if we had just started yesterday, last week, last month, or last year. And I can hear the excuses. “But I don’t know what God wants me to do?” Well, have you even tried anything that was Christ Like? I don’t know, picked up the Bible, went to Church (at a time other than Sunday morning?) served in church, visited an assisted living home, fed the hungry, anything? Anything at all that God might recognize as benefiting others and his Kingdom? Don’t misunderstand this is not from judgement, this is just me asking what did you today?

In closing I will leave you with a quote I just came across yesterday in some of my reading. It comes from a gentleman by the name of Howard Thurman. He said, “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

Don’t you think God would want you to be alive today? Don’t you think he would love it if other people could see his light shining in you? I know God reveals things to you in his own timing. But what if we enthusiastically pursued anything that was Christ like because he wants you to stop being just luke warm and be on fire for him? Maybe you just need to show God you are ready for his big reveal.

Connection and Encouragement

We are made for connection. It just took me a really long time to realize it. We have needs to have to be met. We are not meant to be alone or in isolation. If we do that to ourselves pieces of us slowly start to die. Each relationship will provide different needs. That does not mean we are needy people. But we help one another thrive. We are meant to be in community. We need to help one another. Offer assistance if we can. Bring encouragement. Everyone has their own battles. Don’t be the person that adds to someone else’s misery. Don’t be that person. Be a community that strives to thrive. One of my newly adopted mottos is if you are not part of the solution there is a really good chance you are part of the problem. And if you don’t know which one you are then you have bigger fish to fry. Offer a smile, a gesture, a kind word. Find out of if there is any way to help just one person this week. Someone you might not normally help. Step out of the comfort zone for the week and really stretch your boundaries and see how God shows out for you.

Passion vs. Purpose

Finally, after much technical difficulty, I was able to go live and get my message up on youtube. I only missed my high noon deadline by nearly four hours. I could have easily given up and said to heck with, nobody is watching anyways.

That doesn’t matter. I was watching. My wife was watching. My kids are watching. They are watching to see if their husband and dad do what he set out to do and what he said he was going to do. Not to many people were watching Jesus at first either. But he had an iron resolve in which we would do well to pattern ourselves after.

He knew his purpose and had the passion perfect for living it.

Which brings me to the topic at hand. Passion and Purpose. Are they the same? Interchangeable? Where do they come from? How do you know it’s really your purpose and not something that will pass when the newness wears off? When you find it, how do you cultivate it?

I can really only offer the answer in terms of living your life by our creator’s design. It is the only thing that has become crystal clear to me that makes sense. It has taken a really long time. Too long. But this is on God’s time not mine. As it says in Jeremiah,
“Call to Me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”

That’s me. It was not until I would read, study, ingest, and pour over the Bible and works by other great Christian men that the vision cam more steadily into focus. I was determined to seek with all my heart, mind, and soul. He has made clear my #1 purpose in regards to the things happening under my roof. I am not responsible for others. I can lead others. I can tell other. I can show others. But it is between the others and God to get right.

Show up. Stand up. Ask God Almighty to reveal things to you you have not yet known.

In closing regarding passion and purpose, I would ask that you search out two big questions. These were absolute game changers for me.

#1: If you could convince the world of one thing what would it be? #2: When convinced, what will it allow those people to experience?

I Wonder….

I Wonder Where These Dreams Go.......

The picture was bigger but I thought twice before posting this with my sister standing next to me. I thought if I did this would be the last post I make. She would have easily driven the five hours to make my Sunday afternoon miserable.

But I do wonder what happened to that kid. At what age did he actually lose that child like wonder? Was it a slow disappearance or did he just wake up one day and no longer had the child like dreams? The child like ability to believe in things he couldn’t see. Maybe, more importantly, the ability to believe that all things were in the realm of possibility.

I suppose there is no real reason to worry that much about that now. The bigger matter is not what so much is lost but, the ability to find it again. It’s the search that will bring back the lost sheep or the missing coin.

The search can sometimes be months, years, or decades. In my case 2 decades. I kicked off the official start of my business with an hour long facebook live session about me, how I got here, and what I do. If you find yourself with some time to pass you can check it here.

However, the swing for the fences started in earnest yesterday. I kicked off with an introduction about what you can expect for the next seven Saturdays. I will spend 15 minutes going live on my youtube channel. For the next several weeks we will be discussing the 7 things I feel like is absolutely necessary for leaving behind something your family can be proud of and remember you for.

I ask myself a lot what exactly I have done with my life. And, I have a lot of experiences that were designed mostly for and what I could get out of life. Those experiences have taken me to some pretty cool places and close to half the states in this great nation of ours. Despite all that, it still doesn’t feel like enough. It’s this sinking feeling that you are constantly waiting on something. Something almost supernatural that no one else will understand. A place where you can finally stand on the mountain top and yell, “Look at Me Now!”

And then we wait.

And we wait.

And we wait.

And I know what was missing. There was no commitment.

No Purpose.

No Vision.

No Feeling.

Just some dry bones.

And then it happened. I came out of my desert of sin. God showed me each step of the journey. It all started with a small life group.

Then came a recognition of the three most important things we can do as men.

Then came the podcast.

Then came our Pastor asking my wife and I to lead the Marriage Ministry.

Then came that child like faith and wonder. It’s back with a vengeance. I will not be forgotten by the people that matter most.

This is my Legacy.

What is Your Day 1!

As Greg Groeschel says, “Everybody ends up somewhere, but only a few people will end somewhere on purpose.” So, really, the only question is, “Which person will you choose to be?” You have to decide when to wake up and start living life on your terms. Are you going to assert a little more control over the things you can control and start living a life of intention and purpose? Or, are you going to do the same things you have been doing and expect a different result? We all need guides for the journey. The journey that takes you to uncharted territories. Places that can be a bit daunting to traverse alone. Luckily, for us, we have the same great teacher and a stand alone guidebook. But you don’t have to take the journey alone. That is where I can help. I am focused on men who see Christ as their ultimate coach and have the desire to live out God’s design for their life. So check out my site and all the things I have to offer you.
